The Two Goats

Published May 3, 2020 1 AM

The two goats bash heads,
One slightly smaller than the other,
In a frenzy of violent thrashing,
Their horns locked in combat,
In a vast valley,
Atop a precarious cliff,
Each intending to thrust the other to his death.

They seek to display their dominance,
To mark their territory,
To say unto the other,
“This world belongs to me!
And it cannot be shared with the likes of you!”

And so it continues,
With their horns interlinked,
They jerk and pull frantically,
Moving with great speed,
Each determined quell the other.

The tugging becomes erratic,
They pull and push and throw each other,
But their horns remain chained together,
And as the slightly smaller goat teetered over the edge,
The larger goat,
With his famed lack of foresight,
Shoved with all his might.

And they both brayed with regret,
Until a foreboding thump echoed throughout the valley.
