The Kingdom Trilogy: The Glass Prince

There once was a glass prince
Who sat locked away
In the chambers of a castle
And every night
He would hear the footsteps
Shatter behind the walls
With each step it took
And every night
He would hear the crimson screams
Rattling through their bones
And every night
He would feel the sunflowers intertwining their souls
Begging to be freed
Until one night
The prince
Decided to break his glass cage
The footsteps dissolved away
Snow melting through the door
The dark colors began to drip down the sides of the prison
And wrap their hearts around a scarlet scarf
The sunflowers started to wilt away
All to soon
Each petal covered their hearts
The color of the sun
Truly lacking any sunlight at all
Eventually, thunder and rain
Washed away all the melted snow
The maroon stains
The dried up petals
Yet only to the outside eye
stood a heart golden and new
For inside the glass cage
Lay a few shattered foot steps
Even fewer spots of crimson
And singular dying petal
Oh,
And a glass prince
