Ice Cream and Education

The sweltering July heat accompanies merciless beams of sunlight, the rays striking you like bullets. You and your son are left to bake in your car with a broken air conditioner, rolled down windows, and a single thought of solace: ice cream.

Your sugar-crazed son tugs at your shirt, his wide eyes begging for his favorite ice cream flavor: butter pecan on a golden waffle cone, drizzled in caramel. You eagerly whip out your phone to check out the two nearby parlors.

Jerry’s Ice Cream is right down the block, but its reviews are terrible; apparently, its pitiful array of plain chocolate, french vanilla, and modest strawberry is not enough to woo the customers.

On the other side of town is Tom’s Frozen Delights, which boasts a myriad of options. While it still harbors the main three, it also presents mint chocolate chip, caramel cone, butter pecan, and so much more.

Imagine that your journey to a parlor is your pursuit of an education. Sure, Jerry’s Ice Cream is down the block, but you know their flavors will not appease you or your son. Education matters because it’s the catalyst that opens up endless opportunities; education determines if you can attain your dream job or lifestyle.

Consider Tom’s Frozen Delights. Though it’s farther away, you know the journey will be worth it. Besides, upsetting your four-year-old son in this irritable heat is not a bright idea.

“C’mon, Kiddo,” you buckle yourself in and start the engine. “Let’s get you some butter pecan.”
