The mind
Hammers hit
As contradictory
As violent
Your existential dread
Exacerbated
By the blinding pain
Of the hammers
In your head
Relentlessly
Physically assaulting
Pain
Hits
Like the hammers
Proverbially smashing
Through all the boundaries
You have
Between
Tears
And anger
You cry out
The pain closing in
Everything
Nerves
All on fire
As the hammers keep smashing
You curse
To the gods and devils alike
For the violent pain
For the endless hammers
The relentless pain
Constantly hounding
Attacking
When everything around you lights
As if on fire
You see red
And only red
Everything else
All colors
Guarded
By the hammers
Still in your vision
Everything violently pounding
In pain
Anger
Everything
Starts to turn dark
It keeps pounding
“Just kill me already”
You yell
But no
You are here
Mortal
And still in pain
As the hammers chase you
In your head
Your consciousness hiding
From the monstrous hammers
Everywhere
Suddenly
You lurch
And see your savior beside yourself
You can’t even read the name
The name before you
As if in understanding
The pain increases immediately
You pop the advil in your mouth
And as the violent hammers stop
Your absolutely minor pain ceases
God fucking damn
You really had to wake up
Because of a TINY GODDAMN HEADACHE
You flip off god
Whoever’s watching
Is laughing
You attempt to fall back asleep
And then a lone hammer starts again
…
