- There is no one center of all the celestial orbs or spheres.
- The center of the earth is the center, not of the universe, but only of gravity and of the lunar sphere.
- All the spheres encircle the sun, which is as it were in the middle of them all, so that the center of the universe is near the sun.
- The ratio of the earth’s distance from the sun to the height of the firmament is so much smaller than the ratio of the earth’s radius to its distance from the sun that the distance between the earth and the sun is imperceptible in comparison with the loftiness of the firmament.
- Whatever motion appears in the firmament is due, not to it, but to the earth. Accordingly, the earth together with the circumjacent elements performs a complete rotation on its fixed poles in a daily motion, while the firmament and highest heaven abide unchanged.
- What appear to us as motions of the sun are due, not to its motion, but to the motion of the earth and our sphere, with which we revolve about the sun as [we would with] any other planet. The earth has, then, more than one motion.
- What appears in the planets as [the alternation of] retrograde and direct motion is due, not to their motion, but to the earth’s. The motion of the earth alone, therefore, suffices [to explain] so many apparent irregularities in the heaven.
Meaning…
- Planets don’t revolve around one fixed point
- The earth is not at the center of the universe
- The sun is at the center of the universe, and all celestial bodies rotate around it
- The distance between the Earth and Sun is only a tiny fraction of stars’ distance from the Earth and Sun
- Stars do not move, and if they appear to, it is only because the Earth itself is moving
- Earth moves in a sphere around the Sun, causing the Sun’s perceived yearly movement
- Earth’s own movement causes other planets to appear to move in an opposite direction.
Oh, sorry! This is why people say I come off too strong. I have to graduate as a Canon, and make my sick uncle proud, but I’m not getting enough time to work on my astronomy theorems, this is what I have prepared right now, what do you guys think, wait, you guys aren’t from the Catholic Church are you? Please don’t kill me, or burn me at the stake, I… I… This is fake, really, This is why I don’t publish this stuff. I told my friends not to publish this, really, it was not me.
Wait, you guys don’t look Catholic, so what religion do you believe in? Actually, I don’t care, never mind. You guys don’t believe in this, do you? As I say, “a philosopher’s ideas are not subject to the judgment of ordinary persons, because it is his endeavour to seek the truth in all things, to the extent permitted to human reason by God.”(Nicolaus Copernicus). Sorry, I switch between ideas fast, ok, so let me start from the beginning. See, when I was 10 years old, my father died. Don’t worry, though, I was in great hands. My uncle took me in, he was the most amazing fatherly figure I could ever ask for, and he didn’t just throw me aside for the orphanage to grudgingly take me in. All he wanted me to do was to be a good man and get a good job, so I decided to become a Canon. I get a salary for life from the church.
Ironic, huh, well you may be wondering why I am so afraid of the Catholic Church. My theories and postulates are all against the Catholic beliefs that the earth is the center of the universe. I believe this is untrue and I have even been quoted saying “since the sun remains stationary, whatever appears as a motion of the sun is really due rather to the motion of the earth.” This means that we are self-centered and believe that, just because we live on Earth, it is the center of the universe. This is not the case, and because I have tried to prove otherwise I would have been jailed, or even worse, burned at the stake. Thank god for Andreas Osiander, I hate him and believe that he is a fool, but he did accidentally save my life by writing a disclaimer at the beginning of my book saying that whatever I have written is not meant to be taken seriously. Arrgh, how ignorant does humanity have to be to believe that they think that this looks like a normal orbital pattern!!⬇
Anyway, this is my story, but nobody believes me. I hope that in the generations ahead, someone, maybe someone can get this race of people to understand the truth. I hope that this ignorance is forgotten and the truth is held as right, not feared.
